Dr. Michael J. Endl Performs One of the First RayOne Galaxy IOL Implants in the Northeast

Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare brings the world’s first spiral intraocular lens to cataract patients in Western New York

BUFFALO, NY, UNITED STATES, October 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Michael J. Endl, M.D., of Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare, performed one of the very first RayOne Galaxy intraocular lens (IOL) implants in the Northeast on October 13. The lens, made by Rayner and newly approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, gives cataract patients in the Buffalo area access to one of the newest lens technologies available in the United States.

During cataract surgery, the eye’s cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial IOL. A standard monofocal lens typically provides clear vision at one distance, leaving many patients reliant on glasses for reading or computer work. The RayOne Galaxy is designed to reduce that dependence.

The RayOne Galaxy is the world’s first spiral IOL and the first lens designed using artificial intelligence. Its spiral optic manages incoming light to provide a continuous range of vision, from distance to intermediate to near, while reducing the halos and glare that some patients notice with other advanced lenses. That combination makes it well suited for people who want greater freedom from glasses after surgery without compromising their night vision.

“For years, patients choosing an advanced lens have had to weigh the benefits of seeing at multiple distances against the possibility of halos and glare,” said Dr. Endl. “The RayOne Galaxy approaches that challenge in an entirely new way. Being one of the first surgeons in the Northeast to implant this lens means our patients don’t have to wait or travel to benefit from it.”

A toric version of the RayOne Galaxy is also available for patients with astigmatism, allowing them to address both conditions in a single procedure. The lens joins the practice’s range of presbyopia-correcting lenses, giving patients more options to match a lens to their eyes, lifestyle, and visual goals.

Dr. Endl brings extensive experience to the introduction of new lens technology. He has performed more than 40,000 refractive procedures and has served as an investigator in FDA clinical trials. Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare also has a history of bringing new options to the region early, having been the first practice in New York State to implant the PanOptix trifocal lens. Not every patient is a candidate for the RayOne Galaxy. Eye health, measurements, and individual vision needs all factor into lens selection, and the team at Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare evaluates each patient to recommend the best fit.

Patients interested in learning whether the RayOne Galaxy is right for them can request an appointment online or call 1-800-309-2020.
